The route is part of the waterfront Ponta do Sol / Cruzinha, one of Santo Antão’s wonder (and where you can find paleodune) and is doable both directions, on nice paths.
From Ponta do Sol, a small and sinuous mountain road will lead you to the picturesque village of Fontainhas. Sculpted on the top of a mountain and surrounded with deep valleys, it offers a background decor with a view overlooking the ocean, which was already picked as one of the best in the world.
Between Fontainhas and Cruzinha, the path is pedestrian and halfway up, going across Corvo (a small village, in a beautiful green valley where you can mountain climbing), Formiguinha and Aranhas, until you reach a beautiful black sand’s beach – you can swim, but the waves are strong -, that is a place for turtle’s nesting. Here is Cruzinha, a small fisherman’s village, perfect for fresh fish’s dishes.
An alternative of the route can be taken by sea, counting 3 hours.
